The M.O.M.S. ministry is a six-week course designed to enable mothers of children of all ages to share their life experiences and discover their spirituality. The course is offered periodically. Every six years, a pictorial directory is completed. The last one was completed in 2000. The word re-member means a way to re-join. This ministry re-members Catholics who, for one reason or another, are inactive but are again given the opportunity to reflect and re-member their baptismal heritage as part of the Re-Membering Community Re-Membering is for the Catholic who may need encouragement to return to the Church as a practicing Catholic. The program uses a supportive, non-judgmental approach that respects the concerns and journey of the individual. The Re-Membering process provides a warm, welcoming place to aid inactive Catholics in their return to the table of the Lord and to active Catholic lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. Within the faith community we understand that this return is not instant. Coming home to self, to community, to God is a conversion process over a period of time -- to heal and forgive, to grow in companionship, to ask questions, to discern, and for the community to welcome the returning Catholic. This is, by no means, the only way in which people return to the Church, but it proves to be a helpful process for some. Seton Seniors meet informally on the 2nd Thursday of the month for coffee, cake and conversation in Seton Hall. Planned entertainment, at various times, may be guest speakers, travelogues, performing artists, exercise or occasional field trips. Anyone 55 years of age, or older, is welcome to attend. Every Sunday between Labor Day and Memorial Day, our parish provides coffee and doughnuts in Seton Hall following the morning liturgies. Hosts and hostesses are needed to serve the refreshments. Take this opportunity to continue the sharing begun at the Table of the Lord. “Sunshine
through Music” Sunshine Singers is an “outreach” group, which includes members of other Christian denominations and Catholic parishes. The majority of members are from St. Elizabeth Seton parish. On the last Thursday of each month, the Sunshine Singers visit St. Anthony Home in Crown Point from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Here they sing songs from earlier eras. They range from toe tapping, clapping favorites to ballads, which sometimes bring a smile or tear to the eyes of the residents. Residents are encouraged to sing along. Singers mingle with the audience, shaking hands, giving hugs, or dedicating a song to an individual. The
Youth Group at St. Elizabeth Seton is a community of high-school individuals who
are journeying together, from a spiritual posture, to explore the social and
contemporary issues facing young adults in today’s world.
These issues, often quite exciting and challenging, are presented in a
timely manner for discussion and exchange. All high-school aged members of the parish are
invited to attend Youth Group meetings that are held on Sunday evenings at 6:30
PM in Seton Hall. Friendships
develop and wonderful times occur at various outings and events scheduled
throughout the year. Opportunities
present themselves through which the youth are able to fully share their life
experiences and stories. An annual
retreat provides an opportunity for youth group members to recognize, develop,
nurture and appreciate their special gifts and blessings. The Youth Group continues to establish itself as a
vital part of the “spirited” life of the St. Elizabeth Seton community and
is willing to take the steps necessary to reach out to those in need and
minister to those around them. Adults willing to share their faith stories and
experiences or work with the high school group are strongly encouraged and
warmly welcomed in the journey to realize the presence of the Risen Lord within
us.
